Anstey Allotments
|
Anstey Allotments is the web site for the ‘Cropston Road Allotment Association’.
The Allotment site is situated in open countryside over looking Bradgate Park on the road out of Anstey at the junction of Cropston road and Thurcaston lane. Most plot holders live the villages of Anstey, Cropston and Thurcaston although others travel slightly further.
The plots are available to rent to anybody in the locality and details are usually posted on the notice board at the site entrance when available.
However please contact Tracey Martin in the first instance as we have a long waiting list at present.
If you do join us you will probably have a love of gardening and a desire to grow better produce than you can buy. The location has a superb view and site has a strong community spirit with lots of friendly people to ask for advice.
Allotments have a long history and the Cropston Road site has been used as allotments many years. Please the page on this site entitled ‘History and Background to the Allotments in Anstey’.
More recently the site has acquired a water supply, hardcore road and a wild life area.
The soil is light, well draining and produces a full range of vegetables. It is possible to work on the land even after the heaviest of rainfall.
Plot holders had the chance for a social get together when the Committee will arrange an other ‘Members Day’ in August 2009. The cup for best plot and other prizes will be presented. See photos of the previous event in our the Album section of this web site.
Recently the Association became a member of the National Association of Allotment and Leisure Gardens (NALAG) and the organic organisation (HDRA). Both organisations provide useful information for members.
There are a number of links on this site to other Allotment web sites and also links to useful gardening sites. Please spend some time visiting the various pages of our site and leave any comments in the guest book.
